Although historically Bologna are by far the bigger club, they are just back into the top flight whereas it’s the third in a row for the Neroverdi.

This fixture debuts the new-look Stadio Dall’Ara, as restructuring work reduced the capacity by 8,000, installed new seats and created hospitality areas including a restaurant.

Last week Bologna opened with a hard-fought 2-1 defeat to Lazio, while Sassuolo fought back to beat Napoli by the same scoreline.

The Rossoblu give Godfred Donsah his debut in midfield after the transfer from Cagliari, while Mattia Destro gets his first start.

He’s flanked in attack by Filippo Falco and Franco Brienza, benching Matteo Mancosu despite his goal against Lazio.

On the injury list are Emil Krafth, Daniele Gastaldello, Luca Rizzo, Franco Zuculini and Marios Oikonomou.

Sassuolo must do without star striker Domenico Berardi, who is out for six weeks, and Luca Antei.

Matteo Politano therefore steps in to complete the trident attack with Gregoire Defrel and Nicola Sansone.

Bologna: Mirante; Mbaye, Maietta, Rossettini, Masina; Pulgar, Crisetig, Donsah; Brienza; Falco, Destro

Sassuolo: Consigli; Vrsaljko, Cannavaro, Acerbi, Peluso; Missiroli, Magnanelli, Duncan; Politano, Defrel, Sansone
