The Viola began their campaign by crushing 10-man Milan 2-0 at the Stadio Artemio Franchi.

“We gave our all against Milan, playing with courage even when under pressure,” said the Coach in his Press conference.

“We were consistent from start to finish, trying to control the game and spreading the play all over the field.

“It was a clean sheet too, so I liked everything about that performance. We must continue working in every game, as there are squads with more quality than us in Serie A.

“The media attention on Fiorentina is pleasing, because it recognises the hard work of my lads, but we still need to improve and become hungrier too.”

Torino also opened the campaign with a victory, fighting back to win 2-1 away to Frosinone.

“Giampiero Ventura is a very experienced Coach. He has really effective ideas that the players embrace easily. The fact they fought back for the win says a great deal. We must match them in terms of concentration and intensity.”

Joaquin is again left out, as he continues to push for a transfer to Real Betis.

“He is going through a difficult time right now. I hope everyone can retain a balanced view of the player.”

Joan Verdu was signed this week and can replace Joaquin in the squad.

“He has experience, is technically strong and has different characteristics to the other players we have. He can play between the lines, so with three tournaments he will be useful.”

There are reports Fiorentina have approached Milan for Philippe Mexes, but Sousa refused to answer questions on the defender.

Fiorentina squad for Torino: Alonso, Astori, Babacar, Badelj, Bernardeschi, Borja Valero, Fernandez, Gilberto, Ilicic, Kalinic, Lezzerini, Pasqual, Rebic, Rodriguez, Roncaglia, Rossi, Sepe, Suarez, Tatarusanu, Tomovic, Vecino.
