Roma director Walter Sabatini apologised to Genoa, as Juan Manuel Iturbe “is staying with us,” but Victor Ibarbo is in the balance.

There was a deal in place for Iturbe to join Genoa on loan, then Sampdoria dived in with a proposal for both the striker and teammate Ibarbo.

“I take this opportunity to apologise publicly to Genoa,” Sabatini declared on Mediaset Premium.

“I accepted a negotiation with them to help him grow. Then doubts arose within me that I would’ve weakened Roma, so nothing more will come of it.

“Iturbe is staying with us at Roma and will help this team to win. Both Ibarbo and Iturbe are at the disposal of the Coach.

“Ibarbo had a few issues too, so he will tell us what he wants to do. For now he is with us.”

There are reports the Colombian international has agreed a loan to Sampdoria.

As for Bruno Peres of Torino, who would cost €13m, Sabatini slammed the door.

“We are really focusing on Alessandro Florenzi in that role and are sure he’ll make his mark at international level too. Then we have Douglas Maicon, who is our historic joker in the pack.”
