Sampdoria are preparing an extension to Roberto Soriano's contract after they very nearly lost him to Napoli over the summer.

The player should have been the classic last-minute transfer, but the Partenopei's failure to deposit the contract by the deadline meant the deal fell through and the midfielder stayed put.

Now the Blucerchiati are shielding themselves against another mercato assault in the future as Tuttosport reports that a contract extension is being prepared.

Sporting director Carlo Osti is expected to meet with the player's agent to extend the deal, which is currently set to end in 2017.

It is also believed that the clause to rescind the contract will be raised from €10m to €15m.
