Roberto Mancini said Inter haven’t reached their “full potential” yet and praised Felipe Melo after the Milan Derby victory.

The Nerazzurri are top of the table alone for the first time in five years and the only side with a 100 per cent record after three rounds.

“It is difficult for both teams only three rounds into the season, as neither can express its full potential,” Mancio told Sky Sport Italia after beating Milan 1-0.

The Nerazzurri are top of the table alone for the first time in five years and the only side with a 100 per cent record after three rounds.

“It is difficult for both teams only three rounds into the season, as neither can express its full potential,” Mancio told Sky Sport Italia after beating Milan 1-0.

“We have started well, there were many people in the crowd and hopefully both of those trends will continue.

“As I said last week, big clubs must start out targeting the ultimate prize. Then you need luck, consistency and other elements to go your way.

“Who are the other contenders for the Scudetto? Juventus, Roma and Napoli.”

Gary Medel was surprisingly picked as a centre-back to replace injured Joao Miranda, leaving former captain Andrea Ranocchia on the bench.

“Medel knows the two Milan strikers, as he played against them many times in South America, and also played regularly in the back four for Chile.

“Ranocchia was not in his best form, while Medel is a bit quicker. Perisic can play many positions, but I only got him three days ago in training and we’ll have more time to settle the new players in.

“The team is not yet able to stay compact and aggressive, but with time we’ll find better fitness levels and the performances will improve too.

“Murillo has to shake off this habit of mistakes and bad back-passes, but he’s young and will learn.”

Felipe Melo made his debut and was arguably Man of the Match in the Inter midfield.

“I trained him at Galatasaray and he’s a great player. He’s experienced, can do everything and is determined – not in a bad way. He had a great game tonight.

“We are only in Week 3 and football can change in the space of 90 minutes. These results must give us the confidence to carry on this path.

“Other squads are better placed to win the Scudetto, but we are Inter and we must go for it.”
