“I am disappointed, but not worried,” Preziosi told Secolo XIX newspaper.

“If the Coach tells us that there are free agents out there who could be of use, including Giandomenico Mesto, then we’ll make a move.”

Genoa had planned to sign Iturbe from Roma until the Giallorossi suddenly pulled the plug.

“It was a betrayal I will never forget for the rest of my life. There was an agreement with Roma, we had shaken hands and the player had already said goodbye to his teammates.”

Preziosi was also asked about reports he is in negotiations to sell the club to oil-rich Emirates.

“A few days ago I met a person who said he represented someone interested in getting into football. I can’t remember if they were from Qatar or Dubai. Anyway, we only chatted for about 10 minutes, as I realised straight away there was nothing solid behind it.”
