The two teams have been the surprise of the season so far, but this season’s rivalry remains unresolved as of yet.

“We always play to win,” Di Francesco told Sky Sport at the end of the game.

“We did well at first in finding the goal, then they emerged and found an equaliser.

“We created a lot in the middle of the first half, including a goal that was unjustly disallowed.

“I had the same sense on the pitch that I got by watching the replay, that the goal was good. It’s a shame it was taken away from us.

“The third and the fourth team in the standings were up against each other. This should have been treated like a top match, regardless of what teams were in that position.

“In any case a draw against a team in such a good condition as Chievo is acceptable.

“In fact I expected to win it, considering the way we prepared the game. Perhaps we were a bit tired.

“Our attack is certainly full of talented players.

“We need a lot of replacements in that department because my style of football demands a lot of movement from the strikers.”
