Stephan El Shaarawy was “happy” to score his second Italy goal, as they faced Azerbaijan “with concentration, character and heart.”

The Little Pharaoh had only found the net once before for the Azzurri, in September 2012 against France, but celebrated in today’s 3-1 victory in Baku.

“We knew this was a fundamental game for qualification, so we prepared very well during the week and played with concentration, character and heart. We are happy and obviously I am happy with the goal,” the Monaco talent told Rai Sport.

“Eder and Graziano Pellè worked very well, we combined up front and found some good moves, so we’re happy.

“I was really hungry for the goal, the first few chances didn’t go in, but fortunately it did eventually.”

The Azzurri have qualified for Euro 2016, but a draw against Norway in Rome on Tuesday will be enough to secure first place.

“We are on home turf and must not underestimate that match either, as it can get us first place in the group and we want many fans there to celebrate qualification with us.”
