“The Derby d’Italia is always an important match. It will certainly be an intriguing night with two great teams facing off,” he said of next Sunday’s Serie A fixture.

“It would be an important step to get a win, but there’s still a week to go and we’ve got time to work on it.

“We’ll see how the internationals are doing when they return between Tuesday and Thursday, then evaluate everything carefully.”

Last night Italy booked their place at Euro 2016 with a 3-1 victory away to Azerbaijan.

“I compliment the side, because it’s never easy to qualify with a round to spare. Matches are wide open, even those tha ton paper might seem easier.

“Hopefully before June we’ll improve fitness levels, because Italy always do good things at the Euros and World Cup.”
