Marca launched a poll of its readers to see who they wanted in the 23-man squad under Vicente Del Bosque.

Out of almost 73,000 voters, Morata garnered many more votes than Diego Costa for a spot in the Spain team.

Morata made history by equalling Alessandro Del Piero’s club record of scoring in five consecutive Champions League games for Juventus.

He will turn 23 later this month and has one goal in six senior caps for Spain.

Diego Costa is originally from Brazil and took on Spanish citizenship, but struggled to find the net for both club and country.

The 27-year-old scored one goal in nine caps for Spain, plus two in eight games in all competition this season for Chelsea.

This is the ideal Spain squad, as voted by readers of Marca.
