"We support Michel Platini's right to due process and a fair trial, and to the opportunity to clear his name,” read a statement from the UEFA National Associations.

“We strongly call on all instances involved in the current process – FIFA’s ethics committee, appeals committee and CAS – to work very rapidly to assure there is a final decision on the merits of the case by mid November 2015.

“The FIFA election should not and cannot be delayed.”

However, BBC Sport claim a source told them there was a clear split in today’s meeting, as some wanted a ‘Plan B’ to put forward as a candidate for the UEFA election.

The most likely alternative candidate is Dutch FA President Michael van Praag.

The deadline to be put forward for the FIFA election is October 26.
