The Nerazzurri Coach held the reins at the top of Serie A for the first six weeks, but lost it to Fiorentina.

“Serie A is a very difficult championship,” he told BBC World Service for their broadcast World Football. “This year we'll have to wait another three or four months for the values to be defined.

“But give it another ten games and the best teams will emerge. After four years of victories and having lost three crucial players, a rough start for Juventus was to be expected.

“But in the end they'll still be competing for the title. When they can count on all of their players, Juventus are still the best team in Italy.

“And on Sunday they'll have Claudio Marchisio and Alvaro Morata available again.”

The Biscione is not engaged in the international cups, which could give them an edge in terms of form.

“We'd rather be playing the Champions League of course, but I think that not being there could admittedly be an advantage.

“Maybe not right now, but in December-January it could probably help us if we can stay at the top.

“Winning the Scudetto? Why not, we hope so. It's possible, we have a good team with some good players. The next few games are going to be very important.

“On Sunday there's the Derby d'Italia, it's the most important game in the championship.

“I hope it's going to be a good match. We're second and they're in mid-table, this is an important game for them, too.

“Inter haven't beaten Juventus at San Siro in five years. I hope our time has come, because beating Juventus would allow us to give a direction to our season.”
