Lazio Coach Stefano Pioli struggled to accept their 2-1 defeat to Sassuolo. “It was not a penalty.”

The Aquile were beaten at the Mapei Stadium by a Domenico Berardi spot-kick and Simone Missiroli, while Felipe Anderson got one back.

“We put in a generous performance and I do not agree with those who say Sassuolo deserved to be 1-0 up at the break,” Pioli told Mediaset Premium.

“We fought hard in the second half and conceded the second goal on the counter. We believed to the end and it was not a fortunate day for us.

“The video replays show pretty clearly that the penalty was simulation by Paolo Cannavaro. It’s a pity, but I didn’t see any contact at all.

“We were still in the game and had the opportunity to grab an equaliser, but it just wasn’t our afternoon.

“The team has to do better away from home, but this defeat has nothing to do with previous setbacks. We lost a lot of players to injury, but are still competitive.”
