Bild revealed today that the Bavarian giants first made contact with the former Real Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea boss a month ago.

Guardiola’s current deal with Bayern runs out in June 2016 and the club are believed to be expecting an answer from him on his future before the end of the winter break.

However, it has been reported that the German champions’ Italian intermediary Giovanni Branchini first approached Ancelotti a month ago.

The 56-year-old, who won two Champions League titles as Milan Coach between 2001 and 2009, is taking a sabbatical year off football since being sacked by Real Madrid in the summer.

Former Barcelona boss Guardiola has been linked with a switch to Manchester City, and Madrid midfielder Toni Kroos has tipped Ancelotti to be his ideal successor.

“Ancelotti would be perfect for the Bundesliga,” the former Bayern playmaker told Bild.

“He has international quality and speaks English.”
