A Swiss TV station sacked pundit and former player Stefano Eranio for a racist comment made about Roma’s Antonio Rudiger.

The ex-Milan midfielder was commentating on last night’s Champions League 4-4 draw with Bayer Leverkusen.

German international Rudiger lost his marker for one of the goals and Eranio’s statement provoked a furious response from viewers and the station.

“Black players in the defensive line often make these mistakes because they’re not concentrated,” said Eranio.

“They are powerful physically, but when it is time to think… they often make this type of error.”

Swiss television station Rsi sacked Eranio today.

He played for Genoa from 1984-92, then was part of the successful Milan side from 1992 to 1997.

Before retirement, there were spells at Derby County and Pro Sesto.
