Juventus director general Beppe Marotta defends the sale of Fernando Llorente: 'It was a technical decision'.

The shareholders' meeting at the Old Lady's headquarters ended with a Press conference, in which Marotta was able to discuss the departure of Llorente to Sevilla.

“It was a technical evaluation before anything else,” he said.

“He would only have been employed at the margins, and we could not afford the luxury of keeping a player of limited use with a contract for several years.

“So we resolved the contract, giving away the ownership and making sure that Llorente could find an ideal placement.”

Marotta was also asked whether there was any synergy with Sassuolo, who are often linked to Juventus in the transfer market.

“They're not our second team. They're ahead of us in the standings, and they deserve to be.

“They're really developing their talents and they're undergoing some interesting operations with us, such as that of [Simone] Zaza, whom we purchased for an appropriate price.

“Starting from the next day we began receiving offers at a higher price, but we believe in the player.

“I'm also thinking of the purchase of the first half of [Domenico] Berardi and the re-purchasing of the same by the Emiliani, who can negotiate him with anyone.

“If opportunities like these present themselves, then they are welcome.”
