Former Roma Coach Claudio Ranieri discusses the upcoming top-table clash with Fiorentina: 'Their collective organisation makes them dangerous'.

The Giallorossi will be challenging the Gigliati for Serie A's first place this Sunday, at 17:00 UK time.

“I'm expecting a gorgeous match,” he said, in an interview with the broadcast AS Roma Match Program. “They're both teams that know how to play good football.

“They're both doing good things in the championship, they're separated by only one point. Their ups and downs in the cups are also a point in common.

“Games are always decided in the midfield, and I think the team of the two that can impose its game will win.

“The Viola play according to precise mechanisms and I'm certain they'll stay near the top until the end of the season, giving Roma some serious competition.

“The Giallorossi had two extra days of rest? The problem is never physical. Rather it's the psychological energy you must recover, and in big matches like the one on Sunday you can retrieve it naturally.

“Fiorentina Coach Paulo Sousa? I like him a lot, he was never publicised the way he deserves.

“Roma will have to be careful about Fiorentina's great collective organisation. Sousa inherited it from [Vincenzo] Montella and is carrying it on."

Ranieri was then asked what factors would decide the match.

“Playing at home is of enormous importance. The supporters give you the edge. I remember how important that was when I coached Roma.

“But I have no explanation for the Lupi's ups and downs, you'd have to be in the changing room and speaking with the players for that.

“It's very important that dialogue take place between different players. Roma are an excellent team, with many individuals capable of resolving games.

“Garcia? By now we know him. He did well wherever he went, and he's still keeping that up.

“As for Roma, the worst problem is that there are so many expectations around this team.

“After many years in which Juventus killed the championship, at last we have a season without a team leaving the others behind. So Roma will be aiming for the Scudetto until the end.”
