The Rossoblu conceded the decisive Mauro Icardi goal after Felipe Melo was sent off.

“Football is not an exact science,” a downbeat Rossi told Sky Sport Italia after the 1-0 defeat.

“If you draw 1-1, which is what we deserved, then we’d be talking about a great Bologna. Instead we’re discussing a defeat and reporters are acting as if it’s a poor performance.

“I don’t think Inter had any chances other than that goal. It was our ball, we made a mistake and paid a price for it, but the whole match showed we deserved a point.

“If we converted some of the many chances we created this season, we’d be up there with Inter and not at the foot of the table.”

Rossi was asked if this was a dig at Mattia Destro, who fired straight at Samir Handanovic deep into stoppages.

The former Roma and Milan striker was benched for this game and reportedly furious.

“I expect more from everyone, not just Destro. This is the first time we had three games in a week, so I opted for fresher legs to hold up against the tempo and physicality of Inter.”
