“Tomorrow’s game and the two after that come at the right time, because we must realise and prove what we want to be when we grow up,” said the Coach in his Press conference.

“These games will tell us where we can go. I expect hunger from my players and I have faith in them. It’s true we still have a young squad, but there are experienced figures too.

“There is a certain gap between us and the big clubs, so to bridge that we need to grow quickly. It requires a different attitude for the entire 95 minutes.

“Milan will put all their quality on to the pitch, but I am more concentrated on my team and putting them in the best condition to perform.

“Only in one game, against Bologna, did my side run less than the opponents, so that means physically we’re in good shape.

“Pressing is our style and has to be done throughout the match. We need to be sharp and aggressive, but in a well thought out way.”

The Aquile have a 100 per cent record on home turf, but are fresh from a 2-1 defeat away to Atalanta.

“We still waste too many opportunities and are not satisfied with what we’ve done so far. I was not disappointed by the performance in Bergamo, but angry because there are situations we need to fix if we want to move forward.

“If we want to become great, then we have to take another step. There are sides who have been working and investing for a long time and still haven’t been able to win. We’re on the right track, but now the time has come to change gear.

“I am here because I want to win something with Lazio and the players know that. We are on a journey to reach something important and I think we’ve realised what we need to do to compete at a high level.”

Stefan de Vrij has been injured for some time and it was confirmed this week he’ll require knee surgery, so could be sidelined for four months.

“We are very sad for Stefan and hope the operation goes well so he can recover 100 per cent. He is a fundamental player and this is why in January we won’t be unprepared.”
