Adem Ljajic “hopes Inter will play better from now on” after a 1-0 win over Roma put them top of the table.

Gary Medel was the unlikely match-winner at San Siro last night, but it was the Nerazzurri’s sixth 1-0 result out of seven victories.

“We knew Roma had great players who could cause us problems at any moment, so we’d have to defend with 11 men when we didn’t have the ball,” Ljajic told Sky Sport Italia.

“We’re very happy with this victory, as it really gives us a lot in terms of mentality. It wasn’t easy, but I hope Inter will play better from now on, that way it’ll be easier for the strikers to do well.”

Ljajic arrived on transfer deadline day from Roma and made an unexpected start against his former teammates.

“I said hello to everyone before the game and it was an emotional moment, because I lived with them and ate my meals with them, so it was difficult to imagine them as opponents.

“I had to really get the right mentality when I got on to the field so I could help Inter.”
