The Paris Saint-Germain and Italy midfielder went off just 17 minutes into the Champions League game on Tuesday at the Bernabeu.

At first it seemed to be a left ankle problem, but he was spotted at the local hospital on crutches with his leg strapped.

It’s reported he had X-Rays to check for potential fractures to the tibia.

Verratti then returned to the Bernabeu to meet up with his teammates, but was on crutches and did not put his foot on the ground.

"When I saw him cry out, I thought it was really serious," Coach Laurent Blanc told reporters.

"As far as we can tell, it might not be as serious as first thought. He's a fantastic player and it was a real shame to see him leave the match so early."
