Bayer Leverkusen Coach Roger Schmidt congratulated Roma after “an incredible game” in the Champions League.

These sides drew 4-4 last time out and at the Olimpico the Giallorossi fumbled a 2-0 lead, eventually winning 3-2.

“Congratulations to Roma,” said Schmidt in his post-match Press conference.

“It was an incredible game, much like the last time. The start really destabilised us and we didn’t expect to concede so early, but their counter-attack worked really well.

“We changed strategy after the break and with our pressing we were able to get the result back on level terms.

“We did not expect the penalty, but must accept the result, as this is football. They surprised us at the start, we got the game back in hand and then Roma did well to surpass us again.

“Despite the final result, we will not give up and will do everything to qualify.”

Roma leapfrogged Bayer Leverkusen in the group, now in second place on five points to the Germans on four.

“We have to analyse the situation throughout the group, game after game, because it’s a very tight table. Until the end there will be a chance for everyone.”
