Stefano Pioli says Roma's victory over Lazio comes down to an 'inexistent' penalty and 'their own mistake' on Gervinho.

The Giallorossi finished their city rivals 2-0 today, but many felt the first penalty awarded to Edin Dzeko was generous.

“The third defeat in a row worries me,” said Pioli after the game. “The derby was an important game. Emerging without a positive results makes things more difficult.

“Now we just have to keep our heads low and charge forward to get out of this situation.

“Now we just have to keep our heads low and charge forward to get out of this situation.

“Today we weren't short of drive, but the game started out on the wrong foot, with an inexistent penalty.

“Nonetheless we created our chances. They were able to breach the net first and that made things easier for them. Then we took our second goal on a distraction.

“We tried to attack in depth, though perhaps we could have alternated this strategy to other initiatives.

“We almost managed to rectify the match. The two episodes that determined it were the penalty and our mistake on the Gervinho goal.

“The penalty? There can be no doubt that the contact took place outside the box. I'll say this again: there was no penalty.

“Episodes like these are decisive. There were many people who could have seen the situation, even though it was difficult for the referee from his position.

“But if he wasn't certain, it would have been best to take a different decision.”

Lazio's Senad Lulic fouled Mohamed Salah in the second half rather badly, forcing the Egyptian to be stretchered off the pitch.

“Games like these are full of fouls. We made some, and so did they. Lulic just meant to go for the ball, he had no intention to hurt his rival.”
