Palermo President Maurizio Zamparini sacked Beppe Iachini “because he didn’t believe in the players and performances were shameful.”

The trigger-happy patron sent Iachini packing despite beating Chievo 1-0 on Sunday and brought in Davide Ballardini.

“I suffered making this decision, but watching the last few games you could tell why it had to be done,” Zamparini told Radio Kiss Kiss.

“Palermo were going down a bad road and the Coach didn’t believe in the players from the start. The performance against Napoli was shameful.

“I have a lot of experience in this field and I can recognise when a Coach no longer has a grip on the situation. The victory over Chievo gave us important points, but the style of football was unconvincing.”

Zamparini surprisingly confessed he “made the decision without (director of sport Manuel) Gerolin, but with other consultants.”

Forward Franco Vazquez took to social media today to call the sacking “an injustice,” thanking Iachini for his work.

“Vazquez deserves credit for those words, even if he is not authorised to speak publicly about this. He didn’t reach the Italy squad thanks to Iachini alone.

“We would’ve made January buys even without the change of management, so we will bring in three or four new players.”
