“In those years, we used to have game,” he responded to La Gazzetta dello Sport. “That year my Milan team came from three consecutive seasons in which it played the Champions League.

“And let us not forget that we were without [striker Marco] Van Basten for quite some time.

“But Milan back in those days always had great defensive strength, a concept born thanks to [Nils] Liedholm and further built upon by Arrigo Sacchi.

“Comparing these two groups doesn't seem right to me. Inter are a team that are still in the process of developing.”
