Mattia De Sciglio has a slight muscular problem, so Alessandro Florenzi or Lorenzo De Silvestri could start Italy-Romania.
The Azzurri were beaten 3-1 by Belgium in Friday’s international friendly and host Romania on Tuesday evening.
Milan full-back De Sciglio started on the left, but limped out of yesterday’s training session with a slight muscular problem.
It’s unlikely he will be risked for this next friendly, so Antonio Conte is expected to choose between Roma’s Florenzi and De Silvestri of Sampdoria.
De Silvestri was a surprise call-up on international duty, as he only made his comeback from five months out with a knee injury last week.
Florenzi is a versatile figure who can play in a trident attack, on the wing, midfield, or as a full-back.
