The right-back spoke to the media after a 3-1 friendly defeat to Belgium, as the Azzurri host Romania on Tuesday.

“I saw a good Italy side for 65 minutes, even if nobody likes to lose and even less so when conceding three goals,” said Darmian.

“The Belgium goals were all down to our errors and we must improve, because at international level the slightest mistake will be punished. We cannot afford distractions, especially in defence.

“At this level, the details are what make the difference and the slightest lack of concentration can change the course of a game.”

Darmian has impressed Manchester United and Premier League fans since his move from Torino this summer, so how is he enjoying it?

“This new experience started in the best possible way and I hope it can continue like this. Challenging yourself in another League with a different culture helps you to grow in every way, both as a person and a player.

“The Premier League is a more physical and less tactical competition compared to Serie A. I always watch Italian football and see a very balanced League. I am pleased to see so many sides fighting for the top.”
