Nerazzurri defender Felipe Melo said that Pipita “needs to be beaten up” during a game to keep him quiet. Any response?

“None. I want to play the game like anyone else and above all to win it,” he told the Corriere della Sera.

“When our fans are behind us, we become even stronger. We need them and they need us: this is the perfect tandem to be successful.

“I am still young and think I can still learn a great deal more. That is my only objective. We’ll study Inter, but after that must remain concentrated on doing what we know best.”

Higuain shrugged off questions about Napoli’s title push being overly-dependent on their hitman.

“They played six or seven games without me and won. It’s only right to dream and anyone who says they’re not dreaming of the Scudetto is lying.

“At the same time, what the Coach says is also true, we have to take it one game at a time.”

Napoli have been transformed under Sarri, so how does he differ from Rafa Benitez? After all, Higuain had been reportedly ready to leave the club last summer.

“I spoke to the Coach at the Dimaro training camp and that meeting changed me, because I saw a real man who tells everyone what needs to be said, including to me.

“You don’t have to be too intelligent to understand he had a decisive role in my improvement. Sarri proved himself to be humble with everyone. He also says what he thinks and for me honesty is the most important thing.

“You might not like what he says, but he’ll only say it to make you do better.”

Higuain also reveals there are some stories about Napoli and his own fitness regime that aren’t entirely true.

“I wasn’t there yet, but my teammates tell me he tested the 4-3-3 system from the first day of pre-season training, so it was not a complete turnaround from 4-3-1-2.

“It’s also not true that I lost 4kg, nor did I see Diego Maradona’s dietician. I am just feeling better physically and above all psychologically.”
