“There are no easy games in Serie A, each comes with its own challenge,” said the Coach in his Press conference.

“We're emerging from an important success and some productive weeks of work. We're driven and we've been improving lately, even though technically we're still a bit short of quality and precision.

“Three points would mean leaving a chasm between us and the teams behind us, but the distance isn't that great and the championship is long.

“We've certainly taken some steps forward. For example we're now shooting on goal more consistently, and this gives us faith.

“We worked a lot on attacking as a group. We have more ideas and greater lucidity compared to the way it was before, and we attack with more players.

“We must take advantage of the moment and not waste any more chances. Until a short while ago we thought having 20 points in the first half of the season would be sufficient. Now we've raised the bar, but we need greater certainties.

“Carpi are at ease on the run. It'll be fundamental for us to keep balance, without exposing ourselves to the counter or conceding a goal in the final minutes. We scored some late on, but then we let some in too.”

Diego Perotti is suspended following the ill-tempered win over Sassuolo, but Leonardo Pavoletti is becoming a reliable hitman.

“Pavoletti has margins to develop even further. He's an important kid in football terms, but he also represents something for the people and for the team, and he contributes in terms of positive feelings, energy and enthusiasm.

“He found the right environment at Genoa. I hope he can translate well into the national team.”
