Daniele De Rossi speaks out in defence of Coach Rudi Garcia after Roma's bitter 2-0 defeat to Atalanta.

The Giallorossi's loss follows from their 2-2 against Bologna and their crushing 6-1 Champions League catastrophe against Barcelona.

“This isn't the lowest point, last year we had a lot of draws,” De Rossi told Sky Sport Italia at the end of the match. “It wasn't a great match, we need to meditate and we can't do anything else than look to the next game.

“We emerged from a derby in which we played well, but this week was particular. I hope Barcelona didn't mess us up in our heads.

“We must start thinking about Torino already from tomorrow and work all together. Last year we came back together and we must do that again now if we are to reach our objectives.”

Coach Rudi Garcia will inevitably shoulder a great deal of the blame, but the midfielder refused to join that bandwagon.

“No-one will say on television that it's the Coach's fault, we have to improve. Certain difficulties are open and obvious, but blaming the Coach means looking for excuses, and we'd end up failing big time like we did last year.

“Last year too we thought we had a strong team, but Juventus proved they were far superior. This year we're doing better but we're taking too many goals.

“The last two-three matches hindered us under every point of view. All we have to do is work, full stop.

“Last year we played poorly for 3-4 months, we realised too late that Napoli and Lazio were tailing us. We can't afford not to qualify for the Champions League.

“The supporters followed us down to Barcelona, they won't abandon us to go to Turin."
