Gigi Del Neri saw his debut Verona victory over Pavia as “positive energy so we can continue believing in safety.”

The Coach was only appointed to replace Andrea Mandorlini yesterday and immediately took charge of his first game today, a 1-0 Coppa Italia win against Lega Pro side Pavia.

“It was a struggle and we ended up with a lot of young players on the pitch, but at the very least this victory gives us positive energy to help us work better,” Del Neri told the official Verona website.

“There was a performance of a certain quality considering they had never really played together and we had to rest several for the weekend.

“It might be the Coppa Italia, but it is still a win this team hadn’t experienced for a long time and it gives us the confidence to work better in training.

“When we get all the players back to full fitness, we’ll probably play a different style of football. Verona have to get back on track, we must continue believing in safety.

“In football there is no such thing as a foregone conclusion and we can break down the odds.”

Verona will face Napoli in the next round of the Coppa Italia later this month.
