The Partenopei were Serie A leaders going into this round and unbeaten in 18 competitive games, winning 14, but were 3-0 down at the Dall’Ara until a late Gonzalo Higuain brace made the scoreline more respectable.

“We ran into every pitfall that we could’ve had in this game. We’d talked about all the potential pitfalls, the risk of arriving for this game with less concentration and tension than needed,” said the Coach on Sky Sport Italia.

“We had come off a big game against Inter and were simply unable to recharge the batteries quickly enough. Perhaps there was a little bit of complacency too.

“We went behind here due to a refereeing error, because Mattia Destro was offside, then wasted four clear-cut chances to score and gave away a second.

“At that point we stopped believing and that was a huge mistake, because what happened at the end proved with our attacking potential we can always get back into the game.

“We must focus on the details, because the team is allowing far more than it used to in previous matches. With the same solidity we had three weeks ago, we would’ve won this.”

Napoli are not only behind new leaders Inter, but could be leapfrogged by Fiorentina today.

“Being first, second or third makes little difference right now. Napoli’s objectives are being set out by the media, but we are not looking at the table.

“We had a long spell with great concentration and now we are having a dip. We must learn the principle element is concentration in defence, because you can still take home points even when you’re not in the best shape.

“What changes after this defeat? You tell me. It changes nothing for us. In fact, losing a game could be useful to rediscover the right attitude from the next one.”
