A January exit is widely expected with Watford among the top contenders, but a return to the Bentegodi is another option for the 22-year-old.

“We are willing to make a sacrifice for Iturbe, because this is his home,” Verona director of sport Bigon told L’Arena newspaper.

“He would be reunited with some of his old teammates, like Luca Toni, who he was very close to. A lot will depend on what we are able to do in these next few games before the Christmas break.

“We are not the only club interested, so we’ll wait and see. Iturbe would be the best we could get in January, especially suited to Gigi Del Neri’s 4-4-2 system.

“We must also keep our feet on the ground, because our position in the table is what it is.”

Verona are rock bottom of Serie A and the only side yet to register a single victory this season.
