Roma Coach Rudi Garcia confessed Coppa Italia elimination to Spezia “is really a failure. It’s not normal.”

The Giallorossi played out a 0-0 draw at the Stadio Olimpico and eventually lost on penalties to the Serie B outfit.

“Above all in the first half we lacked more or less everything. Above all you can see some have lost confidence. It’s not normal to not even try to take men on or take risks, only passing sideways or backwards,” said Garcia.

“It is not normal that we fail to score a goal against Spezia after 120 minutes and go to penalties. Tactically we have played three games with clean sheets, but we have lost the balance and aren’t scoring any more.

“It’s not normal with the squad we had tonight and this is really a failure. We have to stay standing in the storm and need character, pride, other elements to prove we can do much better. This isn’t good enough.”

Roma are without a single victory in all competition since beating Lazio on November 8.

“Taking risks also means wanting to score in any way and seeking every option. We have to rediscover the spirit we had up until the derby and this negative streak has to end on Sunday.

“This has to be a lesson for the players that when we play with doubts, we go nowhere. We have to rediscover our confidence and enthusiasm. Only we can do that.

“Sunday’s game with Genoa is now fundamental, we need a victory and I’ll focus on how to get there in the best condition possible.

“I will speak to the players, but the truth is we have no alibis tonight. Against Napoli we showed grit and were aware that we could play at the same level as Napoli, but tonight… I don’t know if we haven’t all understood that this club is important and we have to beat a Serie B side at home.

“If Spezia gained confidence, it was because we allowed them to.”

However, Garcia has no intention of resigning.

"I will not quit. I will stay on and fight to the death."
