Max Allegri urged Juventus not to forget their early problems after crushing Torino 4-0 to reach the Coppa Italia quarter-finals.

The 4-0 victory puts them through to the quarter-final against either Lazio or Udinese.

“The team put in a good performance and it was not simple against Torino. We did very well to break the deadlock early and then control the game,” he told Rai Sport.

“It was important to reach the quarter-finals and be in the running for all three trophies in 2016. Now we can conclude the year on a high and must maintain the same intensity of the last two months.

“We must also never forget where we were in the table, as that ensures we keep up the hunger and intensity to get results.

“Tonight was a potential pit-fall, as we were on a positive streak and Torino didn’t play at the weekend, so they could’ve been fresher.

“The really positive thing today was the way we controlled the ball. We do have to improve technically, passing the ball quicker, knowing when to slow down or speed up the tempo, as that is what great teams do. I think this side can do a lot better.”

Daniele Rugani was given his first start in a Juventus jersey, having previously played only two minutes against Sevilla in September.

“It was not easy for Rugani to play in a derby and especially a Coppa Italia knockout game, but he did very well.”

Juventus appear to have settled on the 3-5-2 system and Allegri explained why.

“We are lacking a trequartista at the moment. When Roberto Pereyra returns to fitness that will be a useful alternative either from the start or during a match situation.

“The lads are understanding how to approach the game and cover the spaces. I think the team improved a lot between Sunday’s match with Fiorentina and tonight’s test.”
