Marco Giampaolo sums up the key to an “extraordinary Empoli side” after their 3-2 victory away to Bologna.

This set a club record, as the Tuscans had never previously won four Serie A games on the trot.

“It is a squad with quality, undoubtedly, but also a lot of dedication and humility. It’s an extraordinary Empoli side and at this moment results are rewarding the lads for their efforts,” the Coach told Sky Sport Italia.

Many thought Empoli would collapse after Maurizio Sarri and playmaker Mirko Valdifiori left to join Napoli over the summer, but the team has flourished.

“It has been a remarkable 2015 and I doubt the club will ever repeat such a year. All three of our midfielders have quality, but without the hard work of the forwards we could not afford this style of football.

“The strikers put themselves at the disposal of the team and only thanks to them can we afford to have so many creative players on the pitch simultaneously.

“Leandro Paredes has quality in spades and is now finding that consistent mentality throughout a game that he lacked when he arrived.

“You can have a quality midfield, but only with collective organisation, and this team has that. Manuel Pucciarelli runs for four, Massimo Maccarone still plays like a kid and Riccardo Saponara uses his quality to help the team. This spirit allows me to make certain choices.”
