Antonio Candreva scored both goals to bring down the Serie A leaders.

“We knew we had a big chance this evening and above all that to get points we’d have to put in our best performance of the season. Tonight we did that,” the Coach told Mediaset Premium.

“For a few weeks now the team has been doing fairly well and for one reason or another didn’t get the results we deserved. I am satisfied with the result, but even more so for the effort. It’s an important victory.

“The quality players work hard for the team too and that is a strong message for everyone. We wanted to prove ourselves here and get out of this negative moment with a statement. When you believe and are ready to sacrifice yourself for the team, the results arrive.”

Pioli had been considered at risk for the sack after a seven-round winless streak.

“There are always going to be rumours and the evaluation of a Coach depends on results. Bad results bring grumbling from media and fans, which is fair enough.

“It’s been a few games now that we deserved victory. Today we are satisfied, even though our position in the table is still not what we’d like and the win doesn’t resolve all our problems, but it’s a boost.”

Lazio are expected to dive into the January transfer market, above all to cover injury problems.

“We certainly need to emerge reinforced from the window. The club knows there are gaps to be filled.”
