The Argentinian's transfer history is rather turbulent, as he was loaned to Sunderland from Inter, but ended up as a free agent after a legal wrangle between the two teams.

Having joined Sampdoria and passed the medicals yesterday, he will now be offered a contract until June at a minimal salary.

If he succeeds in impressing the club, he is expected to be offered a three-year contract at a substantially higher salary, as reported by Gianluca Di Marzio.

“I really wanted to come back,” he said today. “Now I'm available for the club and the team.

“I'm keen on staying here and I'm very driven. Over the last six months I had to stop for a number of problems, but now I feel fine.

“Samp are a great team, they have some excellent footballers and they did well last year. It's a great challenge for me.”
