The German club is among the few suitors with sufficient financial power to hope for a deal with Napoli, not to mention matching the player's €5.5m salary.

While the 28-year-old's purchase clause was set by President Aurelio De Laurentiis at €94m, Bayern could hope for more generous terms if Napoli seem willing to buy.

The publication goes on to speculate that the Vesuviani may be tempted to sell next year should they fail to gain access to the Champions League.

Without the top European competition's extra income, selling a top player like Higuain may be the only way to balance the books.
