Napoli President Aurelio De Laurentiis assured Maurizio Sarri “is locked down for five years” and will get transfer gifts.

The Partenopei won 5-1 away to Frosinone, ensuring they are Winter Champions for the first time since 1989-90, the year they won the Scudetto.

“Sarri has a contract for this season and four options for the next four years, so he is locked down for the next five years and nobody can take him away from us,” De Laurentiis told Mediaset Premium.

“I gave (director Cristiano) Giuntoli a budget for the transfer market so we can sign a centre-back and a midfielder, but they must be profiles that are of immediate use for our Coach. Who are we tracking? It's true that Christoph Kramer and Hector Herrera are in there, but we're watching many players.

“He identifies roles and characteristics he is after, but never gets involved in the transfer strategy and I really appreciate that he is focused only on coaching his squad.”

Among the contenders for a January move are Torino defender Nikola Maksimovic and Sampdoria midfielder Roberto Soriano.

“Soriano made sense in the summer when we started the campaign playing 4-3-1-2, but then Sarri realised we wouldn’t go far with that system. It’s true he can play in 4-3-3, but doesn’t have the characteristics we are looking for.

“There’s such a great feeling in the team that we only need to look each other in the eyes to understand what to do. This team enjoys its football and you can tell.”
