Giampiero Ventura urged Torino fans to stop their protests against the club and Fabio Quagliarella after a third straight defeat.

The Granata have plummeted down the Serie A standings and visibly lost confidence since a 4-0 Coppa Italia defeat to rivals Juventus.

“Empoli are in good shape who have won four of their last five games,” said the Coach after a 1-0 home defeat.

“We held out well for 75 minutes, but after the goal we got anxious and the fans also vented their irritation. We created at least five clear-cut scoring opportunities today and if the first half had ended 2-0 to Toro, nobody could’ve complained.

“We didn’t make the most of those chances and conceded an entirely avoidable goal.”

There was such a strong protest against Quagliarella after his ‘apology’ to Napoli fans for scoring at the San Paolo on Wednesday that Ventura left him on the bench today.

“We need the fans and the team to become one again, the way we were in recent years. Quagliarella did not play because he was not in a condition to focus on the game. There has to be reciprocal respect between those who wear the Granata jersey and the fans.

“Fabio got it wrong, he realised his error and apologised. We should also remember all the good things he has done at Toro and that is a great deal.”
