The Partenopei remain top of the table and in all competition this season have won 20 games, drawn five and lost only two, scoring 66 goals with 19 conceded.

Yet this 3-1 victory started off in the worst possible way, as Sassuolo converted a penalty after three minutes.

“It is not easy for anyone to play Sassuolo, especially when going behind at the very beginning,” Sarri told Mediaset Premium and Sky Sport Italia.

“Don’t forget Sassuolo had never previously lost when taking the lead this season. It was a great game, we could’ve finished it off earlier, but we put in a fine performance. We dedicate the win to Nathaniel Chalobah. The team was really shaken by what happened, he is a wonderful lad.”

The teenage midfielder is on loan from Chelsea, but flew back to England today as his mother passed away suddenly.

Napoli will be top of the table for at least one more week and are now four points clear of Inter.

Higuain scored his fifth brace in the last six rounds and now has 20 goals in 20 Serie A games.

“If he attacked the goal more the way he did in his first goal, he’d be even better. He doesn’t make that movement often, but he has everything it takes and if he made more of his characteristics he could do even better.

“Having said all that, I remain confident at this moment Higuain is the best centre-forward in the world.

“Callejon is top scorer in the Europa League, so it was odd he hadn’t scored in Serie A before tonight. I hope the team can do even better and continue to improve. When you stop improving, you regress.”

If Juve beat Udinese at the Stadio Friuli tomorrow, the Bianconeri will remain within one point of the leaders.

“It is obvious that Juventus are the favourites for the Scudetto. They won four titles in a row and have double the budget of other teams. If we thought we were on the same level as a side that has won four Scudetti in a row, the Coppa Italia and reached the Champions League Final last season, we’d be mad.

“Nothing has changed, we are only one game into the second half of the season. We now rest and prepare for the Coppa Italia quarter-final against Inter on Tuesday. We take it one game at a time.”
