This arena is used because Alessandria’s own stadium could not host such a big event, as the tiny club are in Lega Pro.
They are the first side from Italy’s third division to reach the Coppa Italia semi-final since Bari in 1984 and have already knocked out the likes of Palermo, Genoa and Roma’s conquerors Spezia.
Milan have everything to lose, as they are the over-riding favourites to progress and yet also need to rest some players for Sunday’s Serie A Derby della Madonnina.
The other semi-final on Wednesday at 19.45 GMT is between Juventus and Inter, a very special Derby d’Italia.
