Inter boss Roberto Mancini hit back at criticism by claiming Napoli and Juventus don’t play “really good football” either.

The Nerazzurri have been criticised for their unspectacular and at times unimpressive style, especially as 10 of their 13 victories this season were by 1-0 scorelines.

“There are four or five sides in the world who play really good football, the ones with the best players: Bayern Munich, Barcelona, Manchester City, Real Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain….” said Mancini in his Press conference.

“Results mean a lot in Italy and we tend to forget what happened during the game. We played well on Wednesday, had 24 chances against Chievo, who had not a single shot on goal in the first half, 68 per cent possession.

“It’s difficult to play scintillating football in Italy, because the teams are all so tactically astute and double up with defenders. There’s more space elsewhere to play good football.”

Yet even within Serie A there are vast differences. Napoli scored 52 goals, Juventus 43 and Inter only 27.

Juve have the meanest defence by conceding 15 goals, Inter 17 and leaders Napoli 19.
