Vincenzo Montella felt Sampdoria “deserved an equaliser” against Roma after hitting the bar in stoppages.

The Blucerchiati were beaten 2-1, but threatened to snatch a last-gasp draw with Mattia Cassani’s volley.

“It was a first half aimed at containing Roma and indeed they did very little. It’s just a shame we conceded that naïve goal with the last kick of the half,” the Coach told Mediaset Premium.

“It was a first half aimed at containing Roma and indeed they did very little. It’s just a shame we conceded that naïve goal with the last kick of the half,” the Coach told Mediaset Premium.

“After going 2-0 down we had a great second half and were very unlucky. We showed such dedication and hunger, as we knew Roma would run out of steam in the long run. We deserved an equaliser and should be optimistic after this performance.”

Samp are at risk of relegation after one point from the last six rounds, the worst run of any side in that period.

“The team has everything it takes to end this season well. We certainly showed more courage and determination after the break and did enough to at least earn a point.

“We must continue like this to emerge from this difficult moment.”
