Gigi Del Neri believes Lazio “deserved to win,” although the final 5-2 result was a little harsh on Verona.

“Considering what we saw in the first half, my team deserved to be on level terms. We defended well and had two important chances with Giampaolo Pazzini and Luca Toni, allowing Lazio very little,” the Hellas Coach told Sky Sport Italia.

“Their third goal was clearly offside, but the team reacted to go 3-2, then we gifted them the fourth goal. The team paid the price for such a packed fixture list and lost intensity. It’s unusual that in our last three games we had one day of rest less than our opponents.

“We expected to struggle tonight on a physical level. Losing 1-0, 5-2 or 3-0 changes little in our situation. We just have to recharge the batteries and go forward.

“We did what we could, the third goal was offside and the fourth came from our error in midfield, but in any case Lazio deserved to win.”
