Stefano Pioli wants to see “the European Lazio” against Sassuolo in tomorrow’s head-to-head for seventh place.

“We need to give our Serie A season meaning by following our objective to climb the table,” said the Coach in his Press conference.

“We are facing a team that is doing well and we want to beat them. Eusebio Di Francesco is doing a great job at Sassuolo, but they have weak points and we can make the most of those.”

The Aquile are strangely better in the Europa League than domestically, the only Italian remaining in the Round of 16 after knocking Galatasaray out 4-2 on aggregate.

“I want to see the European Lazio in Italy too. We need the same concentration and determination. We need to raise the tempo so we are less predictable.

“Today we will evaluate both Dusan Basta and Stefan Radu, who had injury problems. Miroslav Klose is in good shape and I think he will start tomorrow.

“Klose is a player clearly above the norm in every sense. You just need to see how he works in training every single day and sets the example for his younger teammates. He is an example of positivity and a great person.

“Can Antonio Candreva and Felipe Anderson play together? It’s possible, but it depends on the system and characteristics of the opposition too. I know Candreva is important, can give more and is a great player.

“I don’t think the Europa League is responsible for our Serie A results. We just needed one point per game in each of the six where it went badly and we’d be in a different position.”

Lazio have been paired with Sparta Prague in the Europa League Round of 16.

“There have been some great draws for the competition as a whole. We could’ve faced stronger teams, but there are no weak ones at this level.

“Sparta Prague will be tough to overcome, managed to keep a clean sheet in both legs against FK Krasnodar and conceded only 11 throughout their campaign.

“Our objective is to go as far as possible in the tournament. In my view the strongest sides in the competition are Tottenham and Borussia Dortmund. Fortunately they’ll face each other, so at least one will go out early.”
