Vincenzo Montella claims Sampdoria’s “season starts today” after an essential 2-0 victory against Frosinone.

The sides had been divided by only two points going in, so this gives them a buffer from the relegation zone.

“This is the attitude I wanted,” said the Coach in his Press conference.

“Today the team gave something more in terms of their temperament and we mustn’t lose that by the wayside now.

“I compliment my players for their approach during a difficult time. I also praise the fans, who showed their true love for the club colours in a tough moment.

“Having said all that, we’re not satisfied with our position in the table yet and need to build on this. Our season starts today.

“Obviously the whole team and tactical ethos was transformed during the January transfer window and it has taken a while to settle down. Now we are starting to see some consistency.

“The victory is worth three points, though maybe something more considering it was a head-to-head. It’s worth more for the club, the fans and the atmosphere around us too.”
