Would the Juventus midfielder have celebrated if he had scored against his former Inter teammates?

“Of course, I was already running to celebrate when I saw it hit the crossbar!” the Brazilian told Mediaset Premium and Sky Sport Italia after a 2-0 win.

“It was not easy for us to prepare for this game and the emotional impact of what happened on Wednesday,” he said of their comeback from 2-0 down to hold Bayern Munich 2-2.

“We were very enthusiastic and had to make sure we were concentrated too. The second leg of that Champions League tie will be tough, as always, but we can do it.”

Hernanes also joked when asked whether Inter missed his creativity in midfield.

“Nobody missed me until a few days ago, seeing as I never played! Football is like that, it’s constantly changing. You’ve got to keep your feet planted firmly on the ground.

“Playing more often in the role in front of the defence I can get more accustomed to it, learn more tricks of the trade. In that position you need more thought and less instinct. I was used to relying on my instinct, but I am adapting and I think I can do well there.”

Meanwhile Juventus ensure they are top of Serie A regardless of what Napoli do against Fiorentina tomorrow.

“There are another 11 rounds to go and it’s wonderful in this situation because you know it depends only on you. The others have the put in an extra effort to chase you down and recover lost ground.”
