Coach Marco Giampaolo says 'results, not performance' are Empoli's problem after the defeat to Genoa.

Counting today's 1-0 loss to the Grifone, the Blues have picked up only one point in the last five games.

“We're experiencing a results crisis, but not a performance crisis,” Giampaolo told the Press. “Our second half was significant, we created some good opportunities but we were unable to earn a draw.”

Giampaolo benched one of his most discussed players, Riccardo Saponara, who didn't play until the second half.

“There is no Saponara case,” he said, when asked why the player did not start. “He had the flu until yesterday. I brought him along because he could be useful. His skill is not in doubt."

Echoing comments by Atalanta Coach Edy Reja after his defeat to Juventus, Giampaolo said the fight against relegation would be a free-for-all.

“In terms of saving ourselves from relegation, the game is on. There's still a long way to go, so it's hard to speculate on how many points it's going to take.”
